Hanging Tree

Hanging Tree

A Poem by BrokenBONEZ
"

a poem about killing the wrong man

"

They drug a man to the hanging tree

And strung him up for all to see

Payment for his unspeakable sin

But in the end it wasn’t him

So now it is too late you see

Just another body on the hanging tree

This reminds me of the hanging of black people in the olden days, like in the South. I would assume the people that were hung were viewed as nothing but "evil" people who deserved their punishments. I feel like this poem is trying to portray the gradual inhumanity of observers as the hung person grows in humanity. Sort of a weird way to think about it, but that's what I got from this, especially in the last line. Great job!
