Our Epic, Darling.

Our Epic, Darling.

A Poem by BeatricePortinari.

He says," if not now

Then when?"

I want to say something meaningful

Like how words are diamonds

Falling like water

From the sides of your red mouth

Or how my wings would be brown

If I ever learned to fly

River bed, dry earth brown

Like an eagle

How you wanted

So very badly to save everyone

But, my dear, it wasn't possible

Because you couldn't even save yourself

But instead my thoughts are simple

A smile and bare feet

How the greener your eyes grow

The wilder you become

Possibly that when she laughs

Her head tilts back against her shoulder blades

An arm falls across her stomach

And she smiles like the sun

Or maybe it's easy

Like brine shrimp floating

Jumping on the backs of plankton

Swimming through a world of their own

And most of all

How some of the best times

And all of my favorites

Are born with your pen

On my paper

In the story of our lives

I think I know one of your secret techniques and why your pieces touch me like I intuited they would. Darn you, you slip in "my dear" in unexpected ways and it always just about makes me melt for some odd reason.
