Alone Together

Alone Together

A Poem by Brooksie Fontaine

You smell like the perfume section

Of a fancy department store,

Evoking images of Golden Era Hollywood stars

With blood red lips and smokey laughs.

Our only illumination

Is the citrus-colored glow of the street lamp,

Its flickering, electrical light

Seeping into the front seat of your car.

Your voice, high and musical,

Is in perfect, discordant harmony with my baritone,

As we say things we could never say to anyone else,

Rejoicing in the unexpected truth

That we are not alone.

The poem beautifully depicts a very intimate sentiment on a Western romance. It evokes many dreamy elements one would often find in Western ambitious desires but blended with the sense of an ordinary lifestyle, it makes the poem sweet and much relatable to read. Thank you for sharing your work, author Brooksie Fontaine, it was a pleasant read.
