Merely Living

Merely Living

A Poem by Brooklyn

I stare out at the ocean
The waves flood onto the shore
I look out at the sunset
And I sense that there’s more
There is more to this life than just simply living
There is more to just living than getting by breathing
People are people
We get busy we stress
We all just keep living
And keep getting by in our world of a mess
But haven’t you wondered
What is this all for?
Do we live and then die?
And that’s it, we’re no more?
So you see I’ve concluded
That’s why I believe
I believe in our God who created all things
I’d rather live knowing
My life has a meaning
I’m living for something
I’m not merely existing
When that day comes
Death knocks on my door
I hope I can say
I lived a life worth dying for
