Listening to MeShell NDegeOcello is an experience on so many levels and while listening to her amazing remake of "Love You Down" on her album DEVIL'S HALO inspired this piece

and the overtly sexy things you do

to the far reaches of my soul

like a passion that rages on the edge of

no control. She winds the strings of her guitar

about the curves of soulful hips

and rockin biceps

about the lips of funk

and the statuesque legs of jazz

and yet the beautiful pizzazz

of the bass in her voice

her soul and instruments

can seduce the flutter

can produce the shudder

of ecstacy in both

bust and braun

 

Always searching for that

otherworldly key to

sonic spirituality.

a passion for rebelling against

that which is the common pop balance

or some billboard chalice

since the truth is

her notes forge the evolution

of change. Because the machine

has not the range for powerful emotion.

Their clubs and gimmicks are the rash

while her spoken word songs are the lotion.

 

And here she sits beyond genre’s door

to talk to me

so I join her unique peace

as she leads me to slaughter

so that I may finally free my heart

and listen

in bliss then see

that this is the universal language

born first in her

slayed upon performance

and resurrected in hearts and minds
