Number Twenty-Six

Draft_1

I read the letters

                To the wind

                With the snows

                Behind the sun

                On a dull day

                                Of nothing

They spoke of you

                With my weak voice

                Broken pen leaking ink

                The tears of black

                From this Poet’s gasp

                                Fall to the grave

They told me

                I still miss you

                But you don’t see

                I don’t show

                With the snows gathering

                                I don’t want too

The wind takes the ashes

                Of the letters never sent

Lost to you from here to there

You faded from my heart like

                The stars from the light

                                So, I shut the tomb

I read the letters

                Under a Dead Winter tree

With the songs of Spring hugging me

                My joy saved for another

                My words to the flowers

                                And not to you.
