Notes To Persephone Book Two: Note Five

Notes To Persephone Book Two: Note Five

A Poem by CLCurrie
"

Death comes with a crawl, or comes with a pounce, And whether he's slow or spry, It isn't the fact that you're dead that counts, But only how did you die? - Edmund Vance Cooke

Notes To Persephone Book Two

Note Five

Draft_2

The tea came first with honey

Steam said it was a chilly morning

He held the cup like an ol’ friend

The warmth shaking his bitter hands

Lost in the gaze of the southern gold

Dancing with the song of Autumn

A time to relive the past before the grave

A moment to sit still lost in thought

The world for a second is perfect

Life for a blink is Heaven

The heat cools in his weary hands

                ‘Did I die well?’

The question asked of me

Sitting across from him watching a tear

Whisper against his cheek

                ‘Did I?’

                                ‘As well as you lived.’
