You Could Be Mine

You Could Be Mine

A Poem by Carl

I'm not a girl

For fancy clothes

My shoe collection

Just grows and grows

Diamonte and pearls

Now isn't that sweet

As Choo and Nine West

Adorn my feet

The comfort and fit

Are so sublime

And to top it all

You could be mine

I'm not a girl

Who plays the part

Restaurant dining

Al la carte

But I expect to be treated

As a girl should

The Chablis and Salmon

Are awfully good

I'm not one for talking

Is that a crime

And to top it all

You could be mine

I'm not a girl

For reading books

Admiring glances

Or glancing looks

Theatres

Are such a bore

Waiting forever

At the Stage Door

I love the outdoors

With its fresh air divine

And to top it all

You could be mine

I'm not a girl

Who is well versed

In Latin and Math's

I've often cursed

In sowing class

I want to cry

And cooking prep

Just makes me die

Better ways

To spend my time

And to top it all

You couild be mine

I'm not a girl

Who's standing still

I've dreams and hopes

And a dertermined will

I tend to get on

With all that I meet

As I mix with

Society's Elite

Iconic status

Will come in time

And to top it all

You could be mine

She wasn't the girl

She thought she'd be

Now at peace

Asleep and free

The World adored her

For a time

Celebrity

Her only crime

The World moves on

New stars to shine

And to top it all

You could have been mine

What a wonderful sing song poem the way it flows.
I was surprised at the end .. Celebrity her only crime ...
So many come to mind.. this reminds me too of awareness poetry - what the trappings of being a celebrity with all the perks and people fawning and adoring you no matter what , what a life such as this one can come to a sad end.

Interesting, to begin with. High self esteem resulting in failure - not the expected outcome. Fame and fortune which comes down to the root of all evil - money. I like the rhyme pattern and the ending line. This poem is intriguing as it starts in third person and ends in first person. Very creative write, Carl. I enjoyed.

This puts me in mind of the life of Marilyn Monroe, although it is more of a recent setting. Like the fact that there is a "New stars to shine", really very good
