An Ongoing Speculation In Progress:
Theory of Physical and Spatial Proximity
In Regard To Human Interaction.

Humans have tended to initiate relationships based upon physical proximity: in the cave, the neighborhood, the school, the workplace, and so forth; from a purely objective glance at this phenomenon, I find these relational bonds quite similar to those of molecular, particulate behavior, in that there is a gravitational pull from any particle involved--a dance of movement, within a relatively fixed orbit, with variances in temperaturement (driving them to move away or closer in their orbit), and other such parameters. Groups of people exhibit these ties, as do molecules comprising a particularte entity, such as a defined organ in one’s body that serves a specific function--for example, the particles comprising a human heart.

Associations are usually “forced” upon us in some way--the main mode being sheer propinquity; with any precise “object” to be found in materiality, this circumstance seems to be analogous; even when people avoid one another within a set situation, they are still in interaction and proximity to one another, but the gravitational pull is of a different nature of magnitude and force. Even when cancer cells overtake neighboring cells, they “know” and imbibe those closest, in their immediate vicinity first.

When particles are extracted from their former environment, and set into a fresh one, they begin to exert force within that new context, as they are transformed by those elements surrounding them as well; it is more difficult to sustain continuity with the former “molecules,” no longer being bound by former context, because the gravitational pull is weaker (although, I have read that human heart cells, when separated, still beat in unison rhythmically--but for how long?), and the pull of the new environment is thus more powerful; therefore, one must exert a stronger force to maintain relationship with that which one wishes to keep in “contact”--through willful thought, foremost.

All matter has some relationship to all other matter--even if one might be perceived as the “loneliest” molecule in existence.

To apply this theory to the extension of physical travel (away from geographical proximity): the various means of transportation afforded to humans within the past two centuries especially--and specifically, to the rather recent revolution of travel, via computers--this is where the analogy changes, mutates, expands: proximity undergoes a more universal meaning, but still within the confines of relative orbit (being our Earth’s, in this instance), aided by the tools of travel, machinery commonly known as the computer, the cell phone, the fax, etc. Now, people congregate in various configurations online, emanating from diverse “states” and “countries” all over the world--allowing chance meeting to no longer be a matter of purely physical geography; “Matter” of “Mind” exerts more force than ever before, and has altered modes of association: we orbit, as particles, around one another, within orbits of gravitational thought patterns now--willingly, and not out of physical, proximate obligation. This fairly new development is a harbinger of an evolution in human interaction and contact that is more reflective of our increasing understanding of the expansion of the Universe, in which our planet Earth is only a tiny particle.

May we each exude the most evolutionary, expansive force, of which we are most capable.

Interesting, to say the least. This can certainly be expanded. Book, thoughts, mind....contemplation; theories....
and of course, you remind me that

Humans have tended to initiate relationships based upon physical proximity:

and reality sets in.
One of the people I love most is never in my proximity. Just a small particle.

I really like this speculation about humans and the relationships they have.

Thank you Carol, I loved the science analogy. It helped alot in what you were trying to explain.

"May we each exude the most evolutionary, expansive force, of which we are most capable."

Loved the ending too. Thank you for the read

O!
I do believe.....material, living or dead......it all serves a purpose.....it all responds or enhances responses.......its a 'force' ......of just being!!

:-)

nice read...ty

Alrighty, so I printed and read your paper today and I must admit I was highly intrigued. It is a very interesting way to think about things and a bit of a change for me since when it comes down to it, I think more like paleo, geo, bio, or physics, and you put this idea into that scenerio. It was quite good. :-0)

I looks foward to more of your papers.

Carol,

Great food for thought. I have always believed that people are part of the cosmos and thus act in a relatively simliar manner. The swirling shape that parrallels so many similar swirls we find in plants and animals, for example. Proximity is universal in my opinion, even extra-universal, extra-dimensional. When people say "We're all one," I expand that to say that evrything is one. I picture little min-computers strapped to the tiniest of objects and certainly humans, transmitting findings to some mainframe which records everything and makes adjustments accordingly. Does that make me a machinist? A believer in destinty? On the contrary, There are always those bad boy/girl atoms that don't act the way they're supposed to act, that appear in two places at once and messy other contradictions like that. The quest for the "Ultiomate Theory," the one that ties it all together, will never exist because of nebbish revolutionaries like you and me and a few atoms here and there. Chaos is the theory and what a beautiful one. Nobody know what's going to happen at any given minute, no matter how close the subject material. That is the wonder of it all, the awe, the reason we keep going on, hoping to find the answer. What a stimulating piece you wrote. Best thing I've read in weeks and I have been doing one hell of a lot of reviewing. Funny, your story wasn't that long but you sure packed a lot of punch in that small package. Thanks so much for writing it and stirring me up. Best wishes, all you need is love, John

i said earlier that i hadn't really thought about this subject. so i thought about it and here's my informed comment. this theory assumes that the technology that is the basis for this new form of interaction is a worldwide phenomenon. however, current experience and history dictates that interaction amongst the masses have, are, and will be largely unaffected by technological advances. the economics of greed have always kept these advances from the majority of humanity and the world's basic economic structure has showed no signs of change. therefore, while i agree with your basic theory, i don't believe that it will have universal effect. as long as the people on top refuse to share with those at the bottom, the benefits reaped from technology will be limited to the higher economic classes. those in the "know" will benefit from the expanded proximity but, sadly, most of society will not. therefore, your theory does not chronicle the expansion of human interaction across the "molecule", it accounts for expansion across the technologically privileged classes. it's application to humans as a whole details yet another basis for further alienation between the haves and have-nots.

This was Ace he! very beautiful and poignant...Im a fan of romance, philosophy and particle physics so...really it had the whole bag for me. lol.

Seriously though, this was a very easy and enjoyable piece to read, one of those instances where one wishes one had written it first. hehe. :)

Very well done, im off to read some of your other works now.

Love

I like the way you think Carol ! Your way smarter then the average bear. But what you wrote here makes since to me and had me thinking on how big this could get? Anyway keep people wondering and we all get smarter trying to figure it out right?

well i can see neitzche's influence in this piece . Also I am very refreshed to see a woman's rational and logical approach to human interactions .Lesser humans , man and woman alike , don't think nearly enough ,instead operating off of emotional responses to outside stimuli. Had they the capacity to think, they would realize that an emotion is nothing more than a recipe of neurotransmitters forming a concoction in the brain . Are all emotions invalid due to previous statement ? No .Beauty is good as is love, for example . They both are an important part of the ever seeking human condition and they nurture to the positive for humanity. However , irrational reactions to negative emotions cause a self renewing cycle of detriment.Cycles that, in the end , need to be studied , analyzed so that eventually the capability for stepping outside of said cycles becomes an option ,bettering the chance for enlightenment.
