War

War

A Poem by Carol Blake

Blood and bone

Waged his war

Grit and sweat

To fight what for

Turned to blind truth

At another’s peril

Win for nothing

But a nation’s herald

What once was

Blood and bone

A name and date

Etched in stone

War is never good for the innocent. But I am thankful for those who sacrificed their lives so we might have freedom. Many wars are truly in vain at the hand of the greedy.

Not a nation's herald but freedom, an affecting read. That last stanza is killer.
