Do You Know What It's Like

Do You Know What It's Like

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

Do you know what it's like
to be all alone
With no mother
no father
no place to call home

When you fall on your face
and there's nobody there
No one to help you
no one who cares

Do you know what it's like
to be a single girl
With no one to lean on
adrift in the world

To have children rely
completely on you
Whose lives depend
on everything you do

Do you know what it's like
to be too scared to love
Too hurt to try
too abused to trust

To walk each day
alone in the world
Unloved and uncared for
unnurtured, unheld

Do you know what it's like
do you understand
Can you feel my pain
like no one else can

Or do you not really care
about what I have to endure
Living in your own little bubble
warm, safe and secure

I know what it is like, to have no father, to have no mother and to have no place to call home. I know exacgtly how you feel on most the points you pointed out in your write. But you know what...despite all that, i honestly hope that you know that there is always going to be someone out there who cares. There will be and is someone who does not sit in their own bubble, but rather will enter yours, and will try their hardest to bring a smile to that pretty face of yours. If you are ever in need of a friend, please message me, feel free. I like this write, it stricks a cord with many people who, sadly, are suffering the same pain. Nicely penned and it flows brilliantly. :) Xx

Thanks so much Inda means a lot.
I really enjoy reading your writing. Your poems are cohesive and stay on a point that I think everyone can understand. Which is nice to read because it reminds us that we are not alone and that there are so many people in this world enduring the same if not similar things. There is a lot of emotion in this poem. While I read it I could feel it. I can relate to most of it too. Thanks for sharing. I hope that for you everything is good! :)

Thank you so much Morgan I hope the same for you also. :)
There is a lot of emotion in this one...I like how it flows. There are several people out there with similar situations, it's sad when people seem to struggle and no one is there that seems to care or wants to help. But you are not alone, God can help you through these tough times and lead you down the right path to the right people that would be glad to help.

Good Job

life can be a sour plateful sometimes. i have been to the depths of the bottom and back. it does and will turn around but you have to want it bad enough to let others help you. there are good people out there who will be supportive if you are sincere . this poem says so much that i really felt much of it personally. good things happen when you allow yourself to believe in you..... excellent write.

Not in this country there's not :)
Wave, Wave
The wand of want, of need , of not.
Wave , Wave the world of truths
Our world of indifference
Crave a inner need to be
better then the last
To be the first to quench their thirst
To awake to more then a barren
More then a teat gone dry
A wand to pierce the mastatized engorged world
"a pin to pop the bubble"

Thank you so much.
This tugs at the heart strings, happens all too often. Working with children I have seen it often and you've proven here it follows you around your entire life. You've given it a strong voice here, albeit sad and distressing. There's a strong message within your poignant words. Nicely pen'd Carolann.

So painfully true.............xo
I think for us to survive as a civilization we have to care. I work with children ever day and I am all too familiar with the plight of families. This poem is a public service announcement.
