The Art of Romance

This is one of my older poems, I hope you enjoy.

I'm only human 
I admit with regret 
Trying to find 
true happiness 

Searching for something 
that may not be there 
Loving the people 
who will never care 

Knowing that one day 
from this I could die
For free love is over 
now the price is too high 

So how do you live 
in a world full of fears 
When there's no point in trying 
and no time for tears 

Where you make a mistake 
and there's no second chance 
Where games have taken over 
the art of romance 

There once was a time 
where love was so true 
Where life had more meaning 
and respect was there too 

But now sex is the game 
on all the guy's minds 
True love's lost forever
destroyed by mankind

Awesome. The pessimism radiates through your words and colors in the pages of the world, and the nostalgia is great as well. This is a very interesting view on romance, and was very fun to read. I like that it also kind of displays a victim mentality,
"I'm only human
I admit with regret
trying to find
true happiness"
as though the condition of being human is holding you back from the sparks and passion and bond that is being searched for. I also love the end,
"true love's lost forever
destroyed by mankind"
because it steals away from the victim and takes some accountability. It shows that whatever has happened to the pure beauty of true love has happened because of those who are "only human". Anyway, all of this is just a really long drawn out way for me to say, "awesome poem, man."

In defence of the blokes I have to say that we are not all like that....But I agree that the romance seems to have been stifled by this celebrity/media driven world we now find ourselves in

there are men out there who think the same way as you do. not every man is out just for a sexual experience. they are rare indeed, few and far between, but there are men who want the love part of a relationship. some of us believe that sex without love is meaningless. look for a more mature man, one who has "grown up". this write makes me sad, which means you did an excellent job of writing it. well done.

Thank you I actually wrote this a long time ago, I'm not looking for any kind of man now. I wanted to share it though because to me it's still very relevant for today's world. If not more so. I know there are still some good guys out there, but honestly for the majority it really has become all about sex. Thanks again for the review. :)

Beautiful poem, but I have to disagree...romance is alive and well. Unfortunately all we see anymore is the bad, the sick and and the tiring news of the eveil that lives in this world. But I assure you, there is good every where we look. There are loving caring people who offer true love and expect nothing in return except a little respect. Sex is everywhere, I won't argue that, but there are good people, romantic people, people who care about others. I loved this poem, but it is a touch sad, not too sad, but a touch.
