I Love You

I Love You

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

I love you
that's all I can say
I don't know why
life has turned out this way

I prefer to feel nothing
to remain numb and at peace
But you have stirred in me feelings
that are demanding release

This battle is mine
I know that's the truth
I fight for freedom from love
from my feelings for you

Yet still my love pours
like an endless stream
From a broken soul
full of shattered dreams

Unbidden and unashamed
desire flows through my heart
Tormenting my mind
breaking walls apart

It was your heart that did it
the kindness I see
The softness of your words
the way you talk to me

The gentle warmth that flows
from your beautiful soul
The empathy you have
for everyone you know

But it was the sound of your voice
that captured me
A Siren call of love
a sweet melody

Your song took me away
to places unseen
Penetrated my heart
flowed through my dreams

Entrapped me in a cocoon
of the sweetest delight
Until I was lost forever
within its endless light

So now here I stand
a girl lost in a dream
Wondering if you
will ever love me

If you will ever know
of the love that I hide
If you will one day see
the truth in my eyes

If we will ever be
more than just friends
Or if this is where my dreams
will come to an end

I don't think it was a silly poem at all. You captured the innocence of life and how a heart can be touched by another and they not even aware of it. So you scratch out your words of love into your diary and dream of the day when he will finally notice the love shining in your eyes. No, not a silly poem at all.

You're welcomed.
Oh, that crush, that never liked you, but you liked them and it was almost secret...Funny How life really is to us! I enjoyed this. :) I had a silly crush once and I was on the phone with him and I told him that someone liked him and for some odd reason he said, "It's not you is it?" in like a voice that sounded grossed out. So I lied and told him it was my friend. Then later on they went out...So lame at the time. But he ended up being really ugly in high school, so it all worked out.

Lol I like that good revenge. :) thank you for the review.
This is a lovely poem imbued with the soft whispers of attraction. I particularly liked this stanza:

But it was the sound of your voice
that captured me
A Siren call of love
a sweet melody

What is that saying...You had me at hello.

this is just sweet!

love the honesty...when people can admit things to themselves and others...

Yes I think we are. Maybe a little too much. Thanks Jacob.
crush: the dictionary defines this word as follows...."to break into small pieces" . how very apropos, n'est pas? i think infatuation better describes the feeling you write about herein, but i have had so many "crushes" over the years that i begin to believe that it is more appropriate to call it "breaking into small pieces", because that is what an unrequited love feels like to the non-benefactor. excellent write!

A beautiful and hopeful poem of love. Sometime crushes can come true. The strong description brought to life the desire and hope in the words. Thank you for the excellent poem of love.

Poopoo you silly, it's not silly one bit! If someone is able to penetrate that numbness that we've built within, around us, that's cause for not only a poem but much celebration! You know, I know where this comes from and vice versa, ha, I just confused myself, but I still love this. ;-)

It's not a silly poem at all. The thoughts are very well expressed. You start with the description of the battle that is raging inside you..and then comes the sweet feeling love. And in the end, the little dream you hold so tenderly, to be loved in the same way.. very well written!
