One sweet wish

One sweet wish

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

A old poem with a rewrite. Written in Jan 1993

"
                                One sweet wish

Was a Austin, Texas hot Summer night. Pretty women wearing shorts and tank-tops in the country club. The music was good and the drink was cheap till 11 pm. I loved the Texas girls. They asked you to dance and talked with the Texas sweet voice making you wish and hope.

Sweet Sophia, A college student requested a dance to some Willie Nelson song. She asked me as we Texas two-stepped. "Where you been Johnnie. Missed you lately. You been deployed or something?"  I told her. A free trip to the Middle East. President Clinton send us to babysit a border. She just smiled and she held be closer.

She looked sad and kissed my cheeks and lips. She told me. "I had war. I hate that the USA send soldiers to places that hate us. My father lost a leg in Vietnam and a brother. Damn wars won't end, will they Johnnie?

I told her. Life is hard. Hard to say what is right or wrong. I wish I knew the answer why we must kill each other for land and oil. She gave me a weak smile and she asked. "Write me a poem dear Poet."

                                    One sweet kiss
I asked, but for one sweet kiss.
A wish for one gentle kiss from a sweet Angel as you.
You tell me. I'm such a fool to wish for a kiss.
Kisses are free when the moment is right.

I maybe a fool to request  a kiss from a sweet lady as you',
but you have taught me to dance, to laugh and to love life again.
You are my Texas sweet honey and sweet dream in dark places.
Dear Sophia. Last kiss make the new kisses sweeter.
Your kisses I missed and when I hold you close.
I need a million more my love.

She smiled and laughed. She told me. "You northern boys are dangerous. Make a girl want to dance and fall into lover's embrace. Thank you Johnnie for the poetry and let's dance to Willie and pray you don't leave me again.

I like how this is both a story and a poetic piece at once, that's a nice touch. You paint a lovely scene, one that practically bleeds romance, tenderness and nostalgia. We may have bad times but the good ones, no matter how small they may seem, stay with us forever. Thanks for sharing this excellent story.

Thank you Inaya. I appreciate the comment.
I don't enjoy admitting jealousy or envy, but your writing always emits such a positive "glow." People like myself - who strive for betterment & meaning - people who can see the beauty, but also too much of the "dark" -- appreciate you & your style. You remind us of what we fight for - of what drives us.

Gorgeous words.

Thank you for reading and the help my friend. I do appreciate.
You write your words like moving journal entries Coyote, always painting a vivid picture with your words, which in my head at least are told at a slower pace, leaving you more time to enjoy in the retelling of them. Nostalgic words, told with a happy sigh, transporting the reader to these places, and yes, the accents too. Just words as you say, life is hard and war, well...will always be.
Great piece.
