The greatest man I ever knew, always had a wide open door for me. His home was our safe-haven. Never a negative word to no-one. A Para-Trooper in WW2. A champion bowler and he always had a smile and good words to share with me. His family surrounded him at the end. A loved man leave many broken hearts.
Who will fill the shoes of legends? I knew he was the greatest when he lived. He gave me solid advice and never complain when I returned home to gather my mind. He taught me, hard work make the man. Easy life, gain you nothing. My mentor, my teacher, my best friend. I know heaven shall welcome you and you will sing your song to the angels. I will miss you my father.
I am yet to reach this point in life but it is something i am always preparing myself for. I am very sorry for your loss. From all the words of wisdom i have read on your page in my four years on the cafe there is no doubt your Father was the one who instilled most of it within you, and that makes him a fine man, indeed.
You have my condolences and i am sure all of the people who know you well here will be feeling your loss. Chin up, my friend.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Coyote. But am grateful for the opportunity to read about your father here. He seemed like an extraordinary man, and you’ve done him an honor with this poem.
There are many poignant lines and ideas in your poem. I particularly like the question of who will fill the shoes of legends. So much has changed since your father was a WWII paratrooper and the way we define legends and heroes in particular has changed. Some men’s lives will forever live on as markers and their shoes will never be filled in the same way. So we can treasure and pass on the memories.
All my best to you and your family in this difficult time.
I am so sorry for your loss of your father Jack, dear Coyote. My heart is with you in this very hard time. Your words about him here show how much you loved each other and how wonderful he was to you and your family. This is a beautiful tribute to him. Please know that you are in my prayers and that your father is always with you. “My mentor, my teacher, my best friend”- amazing words. Thank you for sharing and God bless you my friend.🙏

oh hell I'm so sorry Coyote! I'll be damned if I can ever write a single line to express true consolation for the ones that lose a loved one... I am stricken stupid in these circumstances! My first reaction to loss is to punch a wall and a bellow of indignation to an unhearing mob. It isn't till later when my anger subsides do I hear the whispers of memory of the many gifts instilled from the ones that have gone from this place but they never truly leave us and in that I can start to reconcile. I am so sorry my poet friend

I'm so sorry for your loss Coyote, he sounds like he was a very fine man. My old man cleared off when we were nippers, he was the complete opposite.
May he rest in peace.
Take care my friend.

Your words of profound loss for your wonderful Dad took me back to the grave of my own Dad and what I felt there, standing in contemplation of everything he ever meant to me. Thanks for sharing this heartfelt tribute, dear Coyote.

I felt your loss through your words Coyote. You honour your Father. 21st January is the anniversary of my Dad's death. Twenty nine tears ago. Not a day has passe without him being in my thoughts. He was my backbone, still is.
