Can't allow the hate and fear to overcome us. World been the same for a long time. Must dance and love. Never know when it is time to go.

Ain't no f*****g good war.

Old WW2 Vet is sitting alone.
He raise his glass to the sky.
He look at an empty seat.
To the good war my friend.
He drink his shot of whiskey.
Whisper ain't no f*****g good war.
He put his face into his hands.

Father had his ribbons and awards over the fireplace from the Korea war.
We watched war movies together.
He was the hero who always saved me.

On the weekend he would drink his rum.
Late at night I would sit with him.
He would talk to dead buddies left in the Korean dirt.
He would tell me.
No war is worth a s**t.

Old Vietnam Vet is dying.
The agent orange had made him 110 pounds.
The VA won't see him anymore.
The VA tells him nothing they can do.
I sit with him and listen.
He tells me he volunteers and was proud.
He thought he was doing the right thing.
He looks me in the eyes and whisper all my friends are dead.
I will see them soon.

 What will I tell them?
Did the War have any reason?
Was it just a f*****g grave filled with hate?

I try to put myself in the places where living another day is your goal.
Being hungry and needing medical care.
Watching their world fall apart around them.

I go to graves of good friends.
They died in Iraq for the hatred of the Bush's years.
I whisper f**k these wars.

I understand we need to protect our borders. You want a good story. Find a dark corner in hidden bar. Old Vets can make you cry.

I was in Hamburg, one night. There was little local fair on the alstair. The fair ended at 2300, and everybody left. It was a coldish autumn night. I was bit lonely. I decided to run around the fairground once more.

So I did, and I bumped into the group of hispanics, who pulled me in there dance, because they thought it's summer (late september, north germany), it's spain (Hamburg). A lot many people, drunken, non drunken etc also encircled us.

Soon this had to end, because you are not allowed to shout in Germany after 2200 hours. I was alone again.

One man picked me up, a hopeless drunkard, and landscape garden designer. He grabbed my shoulder, and we patrolled the whole night in Hamburg suburbs till 0400 next morning.

The only thing apart from his intro to me he said is "kreig ist immer schiße" - That translates to "war is always s**t"

Why can't the aristocrats who runs the politics, and who's footsteps rock the corporate hamburg (and the rest of the world) learn from this hopeless drunkard? Why can't everybody learn from him?

Germans ww2 vets do not want to talk easily - but when they talk, I start feeling why do I even exist, tell you the story later :-s

We must honor the wishes of our fallen souldiers. See them as the hero's they are and not disgrace this memory by mourning and wishing them here. Rejoice. They went into heaven holy and self sacraficing. To be a warrior for innocent lives is to do God's work and protect his children.

And off marches my son as a new soldier, soon!

This reminds me of my father-in-law (r.i.p.) who served two tours
in Vietnam and Korea. He drank himself to death and never spoke of
any of it. His medals buried away in a closet for no one to see.
No one knew until his death. I think I've said this before to you.

My own grandfather served in Korea, was at Pearl Harbor.
He, too, never spoke of his Army life!

I have a friend now, age 76, a proud Marine who served in Korea.
He does share stories with me all the time. I will miss his stories
when he passes from this life.

Reminds me of "Courage Under Fire".
War is so sad; leaving many unspoken scars to those who serve/served
this country with honor.

Peace n Light

Nothing overly complex, but it didn't need to be. You definitely brought across the emotion VERY well. I really liked this one, as I understand your point and almost frustration. This is a powerful piece and I enjoyed reading it sir. I've been thinking of writing something along the lines of this, but I simply don't have the strength to try to defend it. I'm glad you have the balls to do so though.

I liked your style of word choice and format for this piece. Mis-spelled word though (dieing) dying. And maybe a few He's or he is in some sentence structure, but over all it was good. I liked it!!!

Actually wars throughout history have changed, it used to be about fighting for rights and the freedom of something or someone and then the flip side of the coin you have the religious wars.
Which Ozzy Osbourne put it, there may be one God but too many religions.
Ok that went off topic
But when you think about it now, wars have changed.
Also what happened in the Vietnam war to make the veterans so different than a veteran of another war.

Your write is most touching and I am immensely touched with the honesty, the raw grit of the feelings of those who have been in a war. You have been able to deliver a very powerful message within these lines!

I hate war, and am an advocate for peace, but I do support our troops who must obey orders. It is such a sad situation to be at the mercy of war mongers.

Well written, and certainly memorable!!!

This is a powerful piece. I love the language used in it. I'm a sailor type of guy. I cuz every other word when I'm with friends. War is a puzzle itself. We can find and give it reasons if need be, but the truth is that its not worth the price. If is for freedom, any casualties might be worth it. If is for power or anything else. its not worth it. Once again, you have outdone yourself. Great job!!!! thanks for sharing.
