Choice

A Poem by Austin Cates

Choice

by Austin Cates

I do not know how the world came to be, nor if we are the only beings shouting into the cosmos. I know not the grand answers of life and death, and I do not wish to.

I know only that if the poets are to be believed, and I have a choice in who breaks my heart, that I would place it in your hands without a moment's hesitation.

Call me insane if you feel obliged, I will not name it slander. I am merely the culmination of a life full of horrid choices made out of confusion.

Will you allow me this one choice, my dear, this one choice made entirely in my right mind? You are that choice, and if I was given the opportunity to live a billion lives I would choose you every time.
