Holding On

In love,
an amorous affection,
supple and candied,
an event that cannot be dictated.
It's all that is thought of,
dreamed of,
yearned for,
but yet fear follows
in speculations,
nightmares and dreams,
petrified to lose
the dearest and closest comfort.

Knowing the chances and odds
of unforeseen occurrences,
those trying to separate,
and grasping tighter,
secure and constricted,
a chain that may be suffocating,
a noose of imagined scenarios,
grip and words a whip,
heart overflowing with trepidation,
trembling with unease.

Apologies and explanations
the only thing that is known
to hold someone near,
to halt the impending tears,
ashamed of the absurd conduct
but it is all that is known
in loving them forever.
