The Sun Can Hear Thunder

The Sun Can Hear Thunder

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

Since the beginning of my pulse I have been honored with good days that left me grateful.........

"

I have known that the sun can hear thunder
and how its brightness
can be unfathomable,
like my dreams.
Since the beginning of my pulse
I have been honored
with good days
that left me grateful
inside of the sweetness
never stifling.........
within all it means.

When midnight kisses the glass
that morning has already
tasted......
Like a thirsty spider
crying out........
for the rain.
All of my senses are
swept through
knowing, my words don't fall
on deaf ears......
or stand there,
all wasted.

No, you cannot know how I'm feeling
but that doesn't mean
our world's stopped spinning.
The sun.......
can still hear thunder
in all the ways you love me.
You lift me up
in the midst of a storm.
All my senses are swept through
my words stand in stillness
a storm's ending......
is love's beginning.

I doubt very seriously if the sun could hear at all that it would hear anything above its own conversion of mass to energy...however I did enjoy the poem. Love can be a storm...but I'd prefer the comfort of old jeans and favorite books and patchwork quilts...warm wood fires...soft candle glow and steaming hot baths myself. It takes awhile for love to get there and I'm not as patient as I was when young. Still it might be worth suffering a storm or two. Your writing is always wonderful.

This is stunning! The power of the wild visuals that you chose-sun, thunder, pulse, thirst, spinning, storm- build to a tumultuous, passionate climax that is held in tight balance with your visuals of calm and gentleness-dreams, sweetness, kisses, love. I love your ending antithesis of ending and beginning. It's a juxtaposition that sums up the warring themes in this piece. I love it. It is passionate and violent yet soft and quiet.

The sun really is a beautiful and mysterious thing! I honestly don't blame you for falling in love with it or connecting with it. It's something about night time and sunrise that has us feeling...funny? Psychotic? Poetic? I really don't have a name for it. It's the best time to think, to imagine or maybe meditate. Perhaps it's how quiet everything remains at that time that soothes us. It's the best time to speak to the soul.

This made me cry...I am listening to Julee Cruise "Until the end of the World" as I read this...
Powerful Neva, love...there is acceptance in this poem...it is much more than meandering thoughts or feelings, it is, to me, a declaration of sorts...
Life...the constant spinning judge, shall keep on spinning and judging even if we fall or rise...we can only accept and embrace the lull before and after the storm...hopefully gaining clarity..what a powerful piece! I am sharing this ♥

Beautiful imagery. Your similes and metaphors create a fantasy feeling to it and the image that goes with it sums up the poem entirely. Beautiful write!!
