Seconds Within Your Light

Coming through the night I feel strange seconds

within a familiar light.

Here is where my imagination led me to think

no one heard my plight.

Still I smiled in wonder, though the darkness

seemed stronger every second.

Because I yearned to hear your words,

know my life was in your presence.

I bade farewell to the night , closed my eyes

let those seconds pass right by.

As that familiar light that came inside,

kept your face within my sight.

There's a moment between wakefulness and sleep, sometimes quite magical, other times almost scary. Maybe, just maybe this is that moment where reality is about to be chased away for a while, when the dormant spiritual is beckoning. And that stores a thought, a person, an event, an emotion with enormous intensity. I don't quite know but this is how your words talk to this reviewer.

Neva, where do you find the art that you post with each poem? And how do you judge that they fit your poems? Sometimes I search for the connection in the art. Sometimes I can find the connection; others, I can't. I've always wondered that. Back to the review...

It is true that the very thing that one loves the most will keep one chained to reality. I've been to a place where all I knew was darkness. Writing and my mom (who's my best friend) kept me chained to reality. So, I know all too well that feeling. Lovely as usual, Neva.

Thank you E.V. I collect and store images that I would use with my poetry. I find them all over the internet especially within art blogs. I also have a huge network of friends online that share beautiful images with me and vice versa. I actually choose an image after I have completed my poem. Sometimes I can find an image that is spot on with my work but in the instance of this piece I could not.

I don't know as far as your question goes.........not as a fact but only in my mind. I have been to those dark places too but thank goodness I have always kept sight of that light in the distance and worked like hell to get away from what will destroy me. Take care my friend.
