The Earth is Still Warm

The Earth is Still Warm

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

I can feel the rhythm of yesterday asking questions............

"

When I am not with you,
the earth is still warm
from hours that are seen no more.
I can feel the rhythm of yesterday
asking questions
when everything collects on the currents
of our own shadows.

I cast last night among the hills
where we were young and thoughtless
peered above the words
Standing
before my eyes.
Where butterflies lived inside a song
Waiting
for the world to sing.

Looking to tell a story
somehow different
from any
ever written down,
I began unlocking the mysteries of life.
I found that the beauty
of growing old
had kept its secrets well,
from my ears.

In the middle of the wonder
there must surely
lay a seed of hope in the meadows
where you and I saw fireflies
in the still of night.
Perhaps there,
we can still hear the echo
of its footsteps.

Eternity wanders through my mind
seeking praise
while the breath of truth
shows the world its strong arms.
Life awakens
to close the door on lessons learned
and yet, the earth
is still warm.

love and loss ripple through this work with a slow pulse. Wonderfully alive and heartfelt. Itglows with life and love as it takes you to a different world. Unlike many poets, you don't hook and hold people in your world, but allow them to stay. Wonderful doesn't sum it up.

Almost nostalgic, with a touch of peacefulness.. leaves me feeling full, and a tad melancholy.

Waiting to learn the secrets of the thing just out of reach, whispering its secrets to you in vaguely heard notes, and wispy touches, insubstantial as air, but real, for all that...this is how this poem leaves me feeling.

I like this very much. This clearly reminds me a maiden walking through a field, dreaming, thinking of what life could be or what life has been.

Brilliantly artful.

'Where butterflies lived inside a song
Waiting

some very beautiful descriptions in this. each stanza had its own message. the first stanza is unbelievably good and i found the forth stanza particularly poignant, the time spent together, the feeling of love, the togetherness, the birth of hope. Quite delightful :)

Hi Neva,
Loved this poem, I see and hear love and heartache, but life goes on (the earth is still warm)
Looking to tell a story
somehow different
from any
ever written down,
I began unlocking the mysteries of life.
I found that the beauty
of growing old
had kept its secrets well,
from my ears.
