I Wake the Beast

I Wake the Beast

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

When I want to hear you say I am beautiful wipe away the tears I cry............

"

Have you ever written about love
until your eyelids were heavy
and tears drip dropped
from your eyes,
when clearly you knew
you had awakened the beast
that lies inside you,
deep and wide.

This is when I hear the world begin
to count the ways
it can swing
against my pride.
When I want to hear you say
I am beautiful
wipe away
the tears I cry.

I could proclaim that roses
slide over all of my shadows
and hold me close
until I no longer want
to be anywhere else.
Say farewell
to these lines I write,
put them on a shelf.

Yet still, I write of the love I know,
day by day, on paper
until the ink of my soul
becomes a gentle scent
which fades into each page.
Again I wake the beast
inside of my heart's cage.

To write about love isn't easy. Need to have the emotion inside your heart and mind. I like this poem. You have the ability to express desire and love with skill. Allowing the reader to feel and know the emotion. I like the purpose and the desire of this poem. A excellent poem.

the way you referred to love as a beast set me gaping...and indeed its so true...really its the most harmful beast when the only thing it can offer is pain...when its sleeping everything is just fine; but when it erupts its like a volcano; melting away anything like that hot lava...so let the beast be dormant; let it sleep and we will be at peace! great lines !

You speak of love the way it should be. with your heart. At times it hurts and others it worked and you have done both in all your writing. Good Job Neva

I have discovered everything I have written is about the same thing. I am almost incapable of writing something I have not experienced... That being said, the beast inside is awoken by the words I feel and I write. After all, our writings are our souls on paper, our innermost thoughts released from their cage we keep them in.
