Life by the Drop.

Life by the Drop.

A Poem by Chante

Like a parachute, you said
you’d catch me when I fell.
“Never mind the plummet,
it’s all part of the fun.”
But when your distractions
proved to be like holes;
tatters in an otherwise
perfect fabric
I panicked.
And suddenly that plummet
wasn’t as fun as
one would hope.

And rather than a rush
the wind was simply
knocked clean out me.
And I pulled that string
like an emergency break
praying
for gravity to stop.
But rather than the miraculous
I received your tattered support.
Like a net you stood ready,
and like water I slipped through.
Unable to hold myself
in one piece.

And suddenly that plummet
became rainfall.
Something beautiful
and gray.
And
just like that
my landing
fueled the earth.
My utter destruction being
of course
a minor detail
to something far greater than myself.
