Buttons The Bear

Buttons The Bear

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

the end of child's play

"

Little table, little chair beneath window light

glittering pattern twirl and drift as a butterfly passes by.

Buttons the bear sits and waits for tea to begin

But the land of play she will not create,

As she gazes at baby’s breathe and rose's red

And those new senses his soul cannot bare.

Everyone grows up, and when that happens the innocent part of us that thought we'd never grow tired of that special friend gets locked away. It makes me wonder if we're not the only ones who lose apart of ourselves. Very moving poem, it's always hard to let go.

well that's not fair. why won't she have some tea with Buttons? I would gladly share a cup with Buttons. Cute little piece with probably more depth than I am understanding.

What bittersweet words that create that place of memory... looking back and seeing the joy of what was.. but growing up and letting go.. So tenderly voiced.

These kinds always get to me the most. The whole 'butterfly kisses' thing. And I never even got a daughter. Probably just as well. She would have had me tied around her little finger. :) So much emotion... Very beautifully written Cherrie.

when play things are put away is always a sad time but all must grow and experience new ideas, loved the gentle way in which this was tackled. Good luck in the contest and keep em' coming
