Life

Life

A Poem by Cheryl J. Turner

And so the one who held you still

Is nowhere to be found

And all you see are aching stars

Your feet have left the ground

The devils in the dirt below

Are reaching for your ankles

You dropped your heart into the sea

And see no sign of it there

Your soul is on a one way trip

It's all too much to bear

The angels have a quick way out

Down the barrel of a gun

But cowardice has raised your hopes

Much better to forget and run

Along the way you've met a girl

She holds your hopes and dreams

But rather than stay to live them out

You crush her, she's not all she seems

Now you're floating aimlessly on a wish and prayer

Hoping someday for a love

That simply is not there

. oh, i just know the kind of person you wrote this for ... and i agree with you entirely ... brilliantly expressive and powerful yet again ... you're a champ at brevity and intensity ... remarkable poetry here ...
