Thinking of You

Thinking of You

A Poem by Devan McKinley

There’s a candle flickering.
It’s flame dancing all around.
It’s cold, there’s no power,
And I lay without a sound.

The only thing that I can think of,
As the clock gets close to three,
Is how I wish that you were here,
Lying close to me.

My head upon your chest.
Your arm around my waist.
And if I craved a kiss from you,
I’d just look up to get a taste.

I want to get used to your heartbeat.
And the sound of your alarm.
Your car pulling in the driveway,
Wearing your hug like a charm.

I want to learn your body language.
And to recognize your tone.
Get familiar with your smile,
And how to make it moan.

I want to hear you laugh so hard,
That tears gather in your eyes.
I want to be the one to console you,
If ever you do cry.

I want to know your typical order,
At a resturant or bar.
Decorate for Christmas,
And fight over who hangs the star.

I’ve invested myself into a soul before,
And didn’t end up with a good story to tell.
But I’m not afraid to do it again,
If you’d like to know me as well.
