Senses

A Poem by Devan McKinley

I’ve heard the echo,
That rings in an empty promise.
And I’ve felt the separation,
That unlatches like a harness.

I’ve seen the darkness,
That gathers when your torn.
And I’ve inhaled the memories,
That linger on sheets you’ve worn.

But what I thought I tasted,
Was forever on my lips.
An addicting flavor,
That sent me on a trip.

I know now that was delusion,
And I fell hard back to what’s true.
I refused to believe it months ago,
But there is no me and you.
