Night-Time

A Poem by Chidoriflower

When you’re alone in the dark
The thoughts rush in like spies

So many all at once, teaming in the silence

It builds up in the chest cavity, in the stomach

Until it spills out in the form of physical pain

It’s the same thoughts, the same feelings you’ve felt before

Why do they still pound so desperately against the head

“Why am I not good enough?” “Why do I want to die all the time?”

“Why can’t I breathe?”

The thoughts, how I hate them, how I hate the way they whisper

But there is always good, good things in the world that can one day quiet them
