iTrip.

A Poem by Chloe Madison Taylor.
"

Sail belly up to the clouds.

"

"Why are you home so late?"

"The car broke down."

We were all too drunk to drive.

"Why didn't you call?"

"My phone died."

I hid my phone so I wouldnt drunk dial.

"What did you do with the extra five dollars?"

"I bought some McDonalds."

I threw down for some Crystal Palace .

They were the cleanest knees I ever saw,

peering from behind a hole in worn down jeans.

touching mine ever-so accidentally,

while I pretend its a boy I trust.

I'm pretty sure I impressed him with my coloring skills.

It smelled like kindergarden as we both raced to color the sky green,

too drunk to care that Paden's little sister will need this coloring book

when the cops come and the house clears, and she's left to her own devices once again.

"You missed a spot."

What if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

what if these lungs are nothing but sacs of restless flesh,

music nothing but a series of synchronized notes and sounds

clothing nothing but fabric and elastic,

combined with colors to be pleasing to the eye

and what if I am nothing but restless flesh,

filled with a series of sounds and covered in glory and scars,

pleasing to the eyes of older men

lurking around the corners of every room of this party house.

I will feed from the mouth of this liqour bottle,

carress its sides and pray to God for a genie

of an athlete with a swimmers body

to swim across my body of water

and visit all my favorite beaches.

(and maybe swallow whatever liquid fills his mouth :)

Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

As a matter of fact, I do, but only on the cheek because this is Illinois, not Alabama,

get a grip kid.

I hate when my boyfriend Ambition calls while I'm in bed with my husband, Drunk.

I gave up on sanity, he was just a tease anyway.

Dirty, silky sheets warming unshaven legs, wrapped around his waist.

It's been a year since I've met him, charming me with his lack of charm.

So I'll hide under the covers from the warmer side of my bed,

and run away from the reasonable thoughts plaguing my head.

I've been looking at that read request for a day or two. Knowing that it was something that I must get to, I trust the sender's instincts too much to ignore it. I'm glad I came. This is a stunning work.

I love your style Chloe! And I love the storytelling here in this piece!

Dope! You're an unforgettable writer and a clever, imaginative one at that.
Great story, perfect context. I digs......

This poem really comes together like a jigsaw puzzle rather than a chronological unfolding. It makes nice use of sarcasm and humor, which seems to come very naturally for you, but I love that this sarcasm never kills the heart of the poem. I sense this vulnerability of someone trying to make sense of the chaos. I really like how this poem puts right in the room with you, and really has a jazzy freedom to it.

This was just gorgeous, nice personal lyrical flow, all the edginess and angst of teenage youth, poignant moments of innocence shattered in broken bits of memory; loved it!

You have a very evocative style that's so refreshing to read.
I love the way you tease out imagery and build upon it, sharing with us your views.

It's great to read your stuff, seriously.
And I'm picky like that.
