A Life of Torment

A Life of Torment

A Life of Torment

Written by: T.L. O’Neal

Life is full of torment

And pain that’s unseen

I feel I must repent

For I’m cursed for being me

Spare me this burden

That others can’t see

Remove it from my head

And set my soul free

I’m not strong as others think

I’m scared to holy death

Of living or just dying

And losing my last breathe

Does anyone really care

Or do they just pretend

To screw me over and…

Do away with me in the end

Why couldn’t I been normal

As all the others are

To live life in peace

Not one that’s so bizarre

My dear God

Take this away from me

Away from all this pain

And my misery

Wow, very similar to "In My Skin". It goes without saying that I related to your poem and could feel the uncomfortableness you feel of being "you". I loved the stanza that said, "Why couldn't I been normal, as all the others are...To live life in peace not one that is so bizarre."

(Shudder)....I feel it. Bravo

who sets the standard for who is normal and who is not? Normal for me may not be normal for you..We all need to judge less and love more..and be accepting to others who may not fit into the designated box...

i think that the rhythm of this piece worked well in delivering such a serious subject in a way that perhaps seemed more palatable because of the form it took. the energy is maintained throughout though i felt that the scanning of the words suffered slightly in the last stanza and that rhythm there could possibly benefit from a bit of tweaking.

I like it, its raw and deeply felt. Life has a tendency to begin to suck just when we get comfortable with it being good for a while. Great job.~Bee

Why Couldn't I been normal...I'm glad you're not. Normal doesn't do good verse. Normal is just s**t compared with the seeing eye of the obsessed and the insane. I love being insane. I'd go crazy otherwise. Good poem.

From what I've read of your work so far, this one is definitely my favorite one man. It's never easy to put yourself out there. Thankfully we have such ways as our art to make it easier for us; as well as each other, since a lot of us write for the same reasons and share many of the same thoughts. I hope things have gotten better. I love the humor you usually show in your writing... but I enjoyed reading about a different, deeper side of you. Kudos. Keep 'em coming.

"Im not strong as others think"

that's where you are wrong.

if you weren't willing to put yourself out there with brave and strong statements like that, you wouldn't be strong.

feel sorry for people who hide behind the idea of who other people think they are. you don't have to share your soul with every person who passes you by...it's necessary to have a hard shell sometimes... i think it's brave that you explore all your sides.

well done.

hope you're doing better.

The simple, heartfelt passion of this poem carries it through.
If it had nothing else, the sincerety makes a believer out of
me. I love this poem, it is sad , but very forthright and honest.
My rating: FIVE STARS and FAVORITE.
