Sanctuary

Sanctuary

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

I love the place where I go, sometimes, even if it is only in my mind!

"

SANCTUARY

Very few people have understood me,

So, my beliefs remain my own;

My thoughts must stay free

And I require a place to be alone;

     Many never find their own spot,

     There to wander among silent minds;

     Most can, only, see the junk they have got

     And have no time to reflect on quiet times;

Beyond the trees and bushes,

Across the painted fields of flowers,

By where the winding creek rushes,

I spend the peaceful, restful hours

     That one requires to evaluate

     The torturing episodes of yesterday;

     My opinions rule, without debate;

     All the heavy burdens fly away;

Here, among the voices of memories

And the sculpture of ageless nature,

I am not surrounded by mysteries,

But engulfed in what is simple and pure;

     Selfish; no, anyone may join in;

     Just find your own sanctuary

     And, then, you can begin

     To, fully, use each special day,

By learning what you are inside,

As you speak to your heartbeat;

It is a true sin to hide

From the dreams, at this retreat.

Excellent write about your santuary...Which for me from time to time can be a close of eyes and think of that place...Here of late I have found that when truly stressed and needing a moment of peace ...I close my eyes and let my inner child crawl onto Jesus' lap and just rest there briefly...Keep your gifted pen flowing...Sunflower..

I enjoyed this poem and your ideas expressed in it.

My sanctuary happens to be in a meadow in Mississippi where I live a far simpler life. I picked Mississippi because I happened to have been born there, but I am not from there, living in Connecticut most of my life. When I feel like it, i visit the meadow and see that the Farmer is still there as I knew He would be. I take a moment to watch a butterfly or ladybug, talk to an old horse or just wonder about why there is a moon.

Introspection at the end of the day is very important. Sometimes you got to meditate to find your true self. Nice read! Well my sanctuary would be my blog or writing something on writers cafe. It actually relaxes me.

This is lovely. My sanctuary is in the field with my flock. When everything else in the world is falling apart they are normalcy.

Very nice, good imagery. Although I think the line "Most can, only, see the junk they have got" would flow better if you changed it to "they've" the flow just seems a little off. I particularly enjoyed the flow with "Beyond the trees and bushes /Across the painted fields of flowers, / By where the winding creek rushes, / I spend the peaceful, restful hours." The flow and rhyme was nicely executed. Personally, I don't really know if I have a sanctuary. None that I can recall at least.

Poem is very beautiful. My sanctuary are my kids and my animals. I could be in a bad mood and my grandson make me forget all the problems with his smile and calling me grandpa. I like this poem. Writer is my peace also. Take me away from this world for awhile.

This seems to be two or three poems joined together - the theme seems to change every several lines. The poem also doesn't seem to be anchored in place or time (I know the poem ends on a 'dream,' but still would like to know when, where or something a bit more 'of this world.') The 11th line is cumbersome (the sentence inversion makes it hard reading and forces the reader to look a second/third time before moving on - a distraction in a poem of this sort. Don;t hide from your dreams!!!

Super good thoughts about what is important, it is so hard these days to get out of the fray and be comfortable being just you and by yourself. Nice write girl.
