My Hero

My Hero

A Poem by Laylani Mullane
"

Written in honor of my mother, Sheryl, who died of breast cancer back in 2006.

"

My hero is strong

But now how you think.

She doesn't grow to the size of King Kong,

Or lift cars over her head.

Meeting her will make you stop

And rethink what you thought you know.

No she doesn't run at light speeds,

But she did what was done by few.

Even when her bones ached and her blood flowed,

She showed love completely.

She gave love to those

That stared and sneered secretly.

She is now gone,

But what she taught me has stuck.

Her love has calmed me,

And kept my life from running amuck.

Good bye mother.

Until again we meet,

You'll always be my hero for loving me,

and helping me start to stand on my own two feet.

Excellent poem! Very moving indeed! One cannot find more beautiful words to express gratitude and love to a mother! Apparently, she has left a legacy of love and strength and, yes, we are happy, very happy for you.....And thank you for such a delightful jewel that your message is!

About
For me poetry is about emotion, and most of the time when I write I try not to edit too much, if at all, because I believe that it'll only dimish the emotion. For the last few years writing has helpe.. more..
