Speak Now

Speak Now

A Poem by CitrtgoW8P

Written on cold lifeless pavement

The confessions of brutal minds

Seep deep into underground rivers

And the lives that no one can find

The city has been painted red

By the fingers of blood stained hands

There is a man shouting from rooftops

Screaming out all his demands

When I first caught your eye you were smiling

So I tried to figure out why

If I never could understand politics

I could see right into your lies

But the low hum of airplanes and movies

Has driven my thoughts from my head

So please don’t take it personally

I can’t remember the last thing you’d said

But if flesh and bone is what you want

I’ll dismantle myself for you

And make it into something stronger

And easier for you to use

But I can’t keep the waves from crashing

On the minds of the tired and weak

And when they stand up and see what you’ve done to them

They’ll know that it’s their turn to speak

And they’ll say, why

When the lights start flashing do I go blind?

Why

Does my silence scream louder than your battle cries?

Why

Does my body give out when I stand by your side?

Why

Do I taste the earth when I’m so afraid to die?
