Acquired Taste

Acquired Taste

A Poem by CleveDante

I am an acquired taste
Too rich for your palate
But you just can't resist

The alluring scent
Drawing in your senses
Pulling you in closer
Have you had enough?
Obviously not
As you frantically feed
For more

With intent
And gluttonous greed
You leave me drained
I am empty
I feel weak

You think you have won
Don't you realise
What you have devoured
And digested
With no thought?

Didn't you read the label?
Sorry, I forgot
I don't have one

Well this is a truly menacing piece of art, which I enjoyed reading for its captivating beginning to the sinister ending.
There is one thing: although my mind has already deciphered certain interpretations, it still may not be clear as to what the content or message is truly about to most readers. Good poetry should always have an apparent story, with an underlying depth to it. Perhaps you could create this by simply adding another stanza, describing more deeply what it is they have done, or the emotions they or it have? This is only a suggestion, as the piece is already so good...it could just elevate it to brilliance if there were some sort of anchor fastening it down.
