A Lot Like Love

A Lot Like Love

A Poem by Emma Grace Tennyson

Speak to me in mottled tones

Speak to me in grunts and groans

Speak to me through gritted teeth

Speak to me; cause me grief

Tell me what I dread to hear

Render my sorrow, shed a tear

Don't be afraid to break my heart

To rip and shred and tear me apart

I'll listen to your gruesome tales

As words slip through your teeth like snails

Slowly, oily, slimy, spotted
Tell me till my soul has rotted

But I know no matter what you say
I'll always plead with you to stay

I liked this a lot, it seems backwards but sometimes we find comfort in those bad circumstances because they are dependable. Plead with the person who makes you feel the opposite of this to stay.

Thank you! :)
I enjoyed the overall message in this poem. It is a good read. Be careful on the rhymes though.

I was trying to figure out why I thought this poem seemed 'gritty,' then saw your word choice.

Haha, yeah it's not exactly happy-go-lucky.
