My First Quake

My First Quake

A Poem by Judas Hammer
"

My first Earthquake---- Ah no big deal

"

My First Quake

I sat on the sofa

In a second story walk up

On a Sunday

The Lords day

Before eight

After five

On the midpoint of dusk

I heard a wind

A wind similar to the Devil’s breath

Then the whole room shook

For couple minutes

It was like when a hurricane

Assaulted the exterior walls

And shake a room

Those rooms were in Florida

This room is in Van Nuys

I was not scared

I was excited

I was at that moment an official Cali boy-

Fool

Was that a picture from the actual quake? I live in Ohio and strangely enough, as of late we've been able to feel earthquakes over a little in the past, but quite recently. I thought it was cool, but it freaked the hell out of everyone else.

Judas,
I felt the earth move under my feet at one time, but that was in the midwest. They say a megaquake is coming soon at the New Madrid seismic zone. It just may rip the nation in half. I like the phrase you used, "A wind similar to the Devil's breath". Your poem seemed to touch on the right note for that moment in time, a catastophe about to happen. Great job on this!

I've never been in an earthquake, but like you, I think I would be excited rather than scared.
