Mitri ran recklessly though the Castle halls. Her face was red with anger. “They don’t know what they are talking about!” Mitri thought angrily. At the end of the hall there was a crowd of people standing and waiting to speak to Her Father. “They can’t do that to me” she shouted in her mind while shoving through the crowd. She bumped into a few people but one particular boy turned around. Blue eyes and Black hair like ink. “What’s your hurry” he muttered under his breath. Mitri paid him no attention and kept shoveling through the crowd. “I am their only daughter how dare they sell me off like that!” As she exited the cloud of noise she began to think of a plan. “I will not be treated this way” she thought rushing though her thoughts.

Earlier that day, Mitri was out drawing in the great Castle gardens. This was her only safe haven in her caged life of a royal. On the page was a beautifully drawn lily from the pond she had her feet dipped in. She lightly kicked her feet, as she shaded the pedals of the lily. The edge of her creamy dress flowed with the ripples. For as long as she could remember, Mitri was in the shadow of her older Brother. Her parents always looked at him with blinded eyes. They never saw the things he does, but when it came to Mitri they saw her as a rebel and a disobedient child. Mitri hummed as her mid floated with the clouds. “My Lady!?” called a guard, scattering her thoughts. “Yes I am here…” Mitri called back annoyed at being spotted. The guard’s reflection appeared next to her own. “The king would like to see you, ma’am” he said to her as their faces rippled in the water.

Mitri trailed far behind the guard as they made their way through the Castle. “I wonder what they could want” she thought to herself. Mitri’s parents never gave much thought in talking to their daughter; it was always her brother and news of war. “Maybe they will wish me a happy sixteenth birthday” she thought, trying to be positive. Whatever they had to say it was sure to start a fight. Mitri didn't give much thought to her steppes as the guard led her through the great halls. “That has to be it!” she thought suddenly happy. She hadn't done anything wrong lately, so what they had to say couldn't be bad! Slowly climbing the steps, Mitri imagined what it could have been.

As she stepped in the room, Mitri saw her parents seated in front of an empty chair. She recognized that chair… “So I must be in trouble” she thought as her heart sank. “Sit” her mother said with a calm voice. Though Mitri hated listening and obeying she sat in “the chair of shame”. “Now Mitri as you know today is your sixteenth birthday” her father began as his daughter fidgeted in her seat. “So they are wishing me a happy birthday!” she thought naively. “And as you now the great kingdom of Novice is at war with the kingdom of Ibis” Her father, Samuel said cautiously. Slowly Mitri nodded. “War plans?” She thought confused. “Well I think it’s time for war to end and for peace to fall over our two lands” Samuel continued, looking his daughter in the eyes. “We have signed a treaty with Ibises king, for your hand in marriage” Her Mother said looking away. “They have a son-” she began again but was quickly interrupted.

What?” Mitri yelled shocked, eyes wide and mouth agape. “You mean at sixteen you expect me to get married!?” Mitri has never given much thought to marriage. She always thought it would be with someone she loved… “And with some stranger; the enemy!?” she said. Mitri was shaking now, but not with fear but with anger, deep anger; at her parents. “How could they do this to me!?” the thought drummed in her head. Mitri knew that with marriage she would lose any freedom she had left. But even worse, her parents were giving her away; away to some man they did not know! Before her parents could finish or calm her down, she stormed out of the room.

Back to the present, Mitri stomped down a hall full of windows. Without thinking she stormed down the bed room hall, most likely disturbing everyone there. Her older brother heard her and with a smirk on his face he stepped out of his room, just in time for Mitri to bump in to him. He looked at Mitri with his cool blue eyes, as if scanning her thoughts. “And what are you doing?” he asked. Chills ran down her spine. Thousands of scared excuses exploded into her mind all at once. “Should I tell him?” she thought scared. He was as mean as possible to her and found pleasure in her misery. He could always find new and painful ways of torturing her. When she tried to tell her parents they did not hear of it. They had no time for her “cries of attention”, they had a country to rule.

Oh go dunk your head in the lake Lucas” Mitri said getting angry again. “Or better yet just go drown in it-” Just as she finished her sentence, Lucas slapped her. “You can’t tell me what to do.” laughed Lucas as his eyes turned scarlet. Realizing what she had done, Mitri ran the other way but Lucas grabbed her arm and twisted it to her back. “I asked a question, what are you doing?” he asked twisting the skin on her arm. Mitri cried out in pain but refused to answer. He twisted the skin harder then let go with a smile and walked away. As soon as he let go Mitri ran scared to her dressing room and locked the door. For a second her brother’s anger blinded her of her anger. Safe and secure in her room Mitri collected her thoughts and planed to escape her cage.

Mitri had finally finished her plans and sat in her chair with a sigh of exhaustion. The next day was a big day; if it did not go right she would be married off and have to live in some other, unknown world. Mitri looked down and read the list she had written down to study her plan. That night she would disguise herself as a royal messenger, sneak out of the castle through the basement; ride a messenger horse until she felt far enough. After that she was free to live her own life, to be her true self and have nothing expected from her. She no longer had to fear that her brother would go insane and kill her in her sleep. No longer would she have to feel his torture. Feeling confident she went back in her bedroom to pass the time.

The time was here and now all she had to do was make her move. The whole castle was silent, even the bustling kitchens and more importantly, her brother’s room. Quickly and quietly she got her disguise and went in the Castle basement. It was next to the sables and she could easily ride off past the town disguised as a messenger. It was most definitely the perfect plan. She saddled the horse and off she went. She passed the castle gates with no fuss at all. She was just miles away from the docks when out of the corner of her eye she saw, a familiar black horse. Scared she turned around to see with no surprise, Lucas on the black stallion chasing after her. It was him for sure; Mitri could see his blond hair shine in the moon light.

Quickly she turned the reins towards the woods near the road. “This should lose him” Mitri thought to herself. Again Mitri looked behind her to see if he was there. Sure enough he followed her into the dark forest. Determination and amusement was all over his face. “He’ll kill me for sure, and then make up some lame excuse for my sudden death.” Mitri thought terrified. She could see his icy blue eyes turning scarlet, he was getting closer… Just then Mitri was lunged forward by her horse as it fell to the cold ground. Mitri, lying on the floor unable to move could hear her heart beat faster and faster like drums in her ears, as the foot steppes got closer. “Bu-bump, Bu-bump, Bu-bump, Bu-bu-”

Mitri awoke with her heart racing. “Oh no!” she thought with a gasp; “I must have fallen asleep!” She ran to her dressing room, got ready and headed to the basement. In the basement it was pitch black and as she looked down she could barely see her two feet. She felt around as she walked forward, toward the stables. Suddenly, she heard bloody screeches and screams come from above and the outside of the walls. Confused she stumbled in the dark. Then she heard this chilling voice. “And what might you be doing little girl?” it said with amusement. It grabbed her arm. “You’re not running away are you?” it asked carefully.

Without any warning, it lit and threw a torch at a barrel of oil. Mitri stood there shocked as the fire spread around her and licked at her skin. The unknown person steadily drew its sword out like a perfect swordsman. The fire was in a position to where Mitri could see the figure hiding behind a hood but its face was covered in shadow. “Whoever this is, they are well trained...” Mitri thought with a sudden lump in her throat as the figure circled her in its perfect form and perfect step. They had Mitri caught like a mouse in a trap, in the maze of boxes and barrels. With a swift and strong movement it knocked Mitri in the back of the head and left her alone to the hungry flames.

In the beginning I was a little confused. I didn't really noticed that she was looking back to why she was running away. But I reread and I now understand it. This is an magnificent story for your first test run. The details you write in the story I could easily picture in my head. I especially like the part where she was drawing the lilies near the pond and how you describe the scene around her. Her brother really treats her in a horrible way. When you describe her anxiety before she entered the room with her parents made me felt nervous too and also the part when she is trying to run away from her brother on a black horse. You really left a good cliffhanger. Now I wish you already typed the next chapter already!
