Lifeline

Lifeline

A Poem by Colby

Footsteps fade away

tears splash the floor

the only sounds that escape

the darkness

...this love I have might kill me

But I'll take it all

if only

to make it easier for you

to spill a few less tears

I take your sorrow

I crave your pain

My greatest joy, your bliss

your smile

your face freed from grief

I ignore the knife in my back

your dagger piercing my heart

The wrinkled picture

in my bloodied hand

the pain muted

by that twinkle in your eye

Life gushing from my chest

Will you choose to see it

to save me?

I stumble

feel myself move toward the ground

my moment of truth

are you there to catch

my fall...
