Last Breath

Last Breath

A Poem by Colby

Pressure builds

Head ready to explode

Lids droop

Vision blurs

Muscles lock

Fingers curl

Convulsing on the floor

Mouth foams

mixing with blood

Sweat drips from his wavy brown hair

joining the mixture on the hard tile

Breath comes in gasps

He coughs

Clawing at the floor

He tries to rise

Weakened bones break

The pain doesn't register

Time slows down

The sounds of his own screams fade away

as he looks down at his blurry hands

Weak

Covered in blood

He remembers feeling strong once

What has he become

that he should die like this?

Alone

As life fades

The breath falls

He sees the world through the clearest lens

He focuses on the clock

His eyes shut

as a bell sounds in the distance
