As August Approaches...

As August Approaches...

A Poem by Colton Warr
"

I'm sorry for not being as active. I miss you all. I love you all. Here's but a taste of what I've been working on. August Eighth. Love, CEW

"

As August Approaches…

A Prelude

He fell,

desperately quiet,

dangerously private,

deliberately trying,

to change the seasons.

to cling to reason.

to tread not into treason.

Pretty pieces of parchment pulling at his pen,

Witty wenches writing wild words about when,

His teeth turned them away upon entrance to the Wolf’s Den.

Alas, the blood dripping brought more chill than heat,

She still said that it would be a thrill to meet,

I walked up to her and gave her a kiss to kill as a greet,

And then we talked about August…

Ask for forgiveness now, she told he,

Usually he would give everything to thee,

Guess these moons have cost him more than just a fee,

Unless she is the one, best to just leave him be,

She should tread carefully when locking lips with me,

Told him she keeps her love locked up,

let my silver tongue be your key…

the ink spills on,

The Eighth Day of the Eighth Month

this is fantastic. I feel like there is a sense of not cheating yourself. I like how you explain this in the beginning with silence, then bringing to light your actions as you approached.

Colton,
Good description and imagery in your words that transcended into colorful poetry. I liked your style, flowed well, gave the reader reason to read on. well done.

My review here will probably differ in such a startling way...As I read the words here...they flattened out and indented into the paper ....like they were being typed by a typewriter while I was reading them. the screen yellowed like an aging parchment...like a story of a lifetime...I could hear things rustle and scratch ...like the making of notes or corrections..sighs and hmmmsss....the flutters of eyes and the taste of lips. i feel the heat of the street and want to walk away from the lights and noises.sheltering my thoughts to the quietness of alone. Im not sure where your going...I just feel like Ive been where you ve been....

I really like this one a lot. It's funny it stands alone so great but at the same time, it made me feel like it was a prelude to a love story involving a wolf, not that it was it just made me feel that way. Really like the poem would love to see if have any more like that maybe one poem could lead to another, just suggestion. Thank you for sharing hope you'll share some more.

There is not much that I can say here that has not already been said. This is thoughts in motion where the minds' eye appropriately follows. Quality over quantity, I suppose. NICELY DONE!

Colton is a poet I know and like. What I especially like here is the alliteration and repeats of the first part of the poem, this makes this urgent, pleading. Keep up the good work.
