As Alway, As Ever

As Alway, As Ever

A Poem by Comewhatevermay

I have looked for you in every lover I have ever taken
and I find myself
crushed
beyond all reason
when they are not
you

In the secret place
between what is thought
and said
I am
haunted
by the ghost of you

Not
the version
I possessed
But the soul
I knew
You could become

Even now
you are
not the you
for which
I have
been longing

Oh
how I wish
that you were
Oh
that I could
will it

Please
I have
I can't
I will
bend your will
I won't

Yet
this is
my burden to bear
to know and love
the unknown
of that which is yet to come

And so
I continue
looking forward
in your absence
ever seeking
as always, as ever

This is beautifully written, full of longing and the feeling of something let go too soon, which is the image I got in my head, of a face of a little girl in the moment she knows she let go of her balloon. I think we are all a little guilty of measuring others against what we once had. Great write.

More like longing for what she has never had, but that you so much for the review.
