Somnolent Forest

Somnolent Forest

A Poem by Cory Scott

Here I Stand Among Somnolent Trees
Nary Awake And Ever Bordering Sleep
Restless Wind Rustles The Dreams That Drop
Resoundingly Crunching Beneath Ever Treading Feet
An Enervated Sky Begins To Close Its Eye
My Solitary Guide Hastily Fades Away

And As Darkness Ceases Its Gloomy Descent
I Stare Hopelessly in Shock And Dismay
For What Once Was A Path
Laid A Vast Swath
Of Unyielding Misery and Despair

Oh Somnolent Trees Pay Little Heed To Me
As I Rest On Your Old Sod And Resign
Your Unyielding Thicket Maunder
Parables of My Ill-Fated Wander
Throughout Your Entangled Byway

My Mentality You Now Hold With Hands So Cold
Through Nights Nigh Unbreakable Sway
And The Resplendent Dreams Will Nevermore Seem
Abreast As They Were Today

When From Within The Vaults of Heaven
There Displayed a Unique Presence
Of Aspiration, Opulence, and Might
Newly Determined I Press On Unburdened
Until I Attain Days Light
