Homeless Soldiers

Homeless Soldiers

A Poem by Country Girl47

For years, many soldiers
have had to fight over sea,
So that our country could
be safe, from our enemies.

They've returned to no job,
that had once, been guaranteed.
Lost families and homes,
nightmares causing insanity.

They shouldn't have to beg
for coffee, something to eat.
Have nowhere to sleep, except
on the dangerous streets.

Then you wonder just why,
they've lost their dignity,
feel hopeless and unworthy.
have no respect for society.

Wake up world! Give back
what they really deserve.
They have paid their dues,
so freedom we wouldn't lack.

Would you want to be treated
the exact same way?
I know I wouldn't want to be,
so why should they?
