Winter Once Again

Winter Once Again

A Poem by G. Anderson

As the leaves gently meet the ground,
kissing the dry blades of grass with colors
of gold and red and brown...

And sometimes they turn black.

So here we go again....
Everything dying, being crumpled and crunched beneath feet
that don't care, won't care, and will never care.
Rain beats,
the heat smothers,
and then the snow...

It blankets the leaves with numbness, cloaking and masking.

Here comes winter once again.

Such a beautifully disturbing metaphor for winter... I love the intense imagery as the seasons change. Especially in the first stanza, it starts so gentle with a kiss but then everything is destroyed in a brutal fashion, crunched and forgotten, no one cares anymore. It can be a metaphor for so many things depending on who reads it and how they relate to it. Nature, relationships, family matters, anything. That's what makes this poem all the more beautiful than it already is... it's so completely universal that anyone can read it and get several different meanings or only one that is truly close to themselves. A true work of art. Well done.

Ah such a metaphor for our own lives as trusted bodies eventually fail and give way to new life as they pass
