Whiskey & Cigarettes

Whiskey & Cigarettes

A Poem by CowgirlOnCoffee

Tears, blood & dust
History
She's Running
To the bottom of the glass
To the bottom of the bottle
Break her stride
Hold her still
Demand more
Another cigarette
Another little pill
Survival mode
Always running
Fight her
Another wrong turn
Another shot of whiskey
One breath
Yell
Scream
Demand more
Another shot of whiskey
Why wont she cry
So much beauty hidden behind those eyes
Survival mode
Break her stride
Hold her still.

And so the sin tax goes on...wreaking havoc with the vulnerable. When excess replaces thought process, we truly are done in.

Thought provoking write...!

the urgency is palpable~ cadence like hoof beats~ heart beats~pounding the essence of the poem into the marrow~ we run run run as fast as we can but running away from ourselves is, in the long run, impossible~
