Lampshades in Your Hands and Masks Behind Your Eyes

Lampshades in Your Hands and Masks Behind Your Eyes

A Poem by KL

swayed by a mindful ocean

your reality can slip

and fall,

and you will believe the world

in your hands is the

world in your eyes.

wear your mirrored mask

and reflect your own perspective

...the Philosopher,

the Joker,

the Romantic,

the Adventurist...

because in the end

even your characters have to dream

there is no magic

no hallucinogenic flower

blossoming in your brain.

waking up is wishful

but things

would stay the same.

do you see the light?

or do you simply

serenade in shades of

black

and

white...

for you are what you see

make what you believe

even if your reality

slips on your dreams.

(...what is the light, anyways?)

There definitely can be a fine line between dreams and reality. I love when I slip on my dreams ... B&W is for p*****s ... Favorite phrase: "wear your mirrored mask and reflect your perspective "... This is so timely for me ... I can't let others' decisions about me, sink in... They're usually wrong anyway ... Also, loved the 3rd verse a hell of a lot ... Great philosophical outlook on taking responsibility for yourself and how you either dream away the hours or take those dreams and make them a part of your daily life.. BRAVO, KL! Thanks for the boost!

The line between dreams and reality, the thin line that everyone has touched. I've touched the line more than a couple, so this poem really speaks to me. I like how the first lines and the last lines go together in a way, yet split in another. I love the vocabulary, the use of different words throughout (something I fail at). Great poem, really.

"there is no magic
no hallucinogenic flower
blossoming in your brain."

This is lovely, its like the reflection of the city in the river, rippling as the boats pass by, enchanting use of words and thought.

second stanza didn't seem to fit it for me, rather blank, otherwise another spirited write, colourful in words and metaphor; especially enjoyed the way you form metre, so visually independant from the linear form and lenght of stanzas. tasteful & with care for poem itself.

thank you!

These are my favorite lines.
"for you are what you see

I agree with the other reviews. I think you should fix that giant gap between the 2 stanzas but other than that, this was a great poem

Great piece.. the imagery was fantastic, and spoke mountains. I'm thinking on it a bit too much to give it a proper review. I'll suffice with that.

Well done.
