Never had normalcy
Never had a chance
Instead he just danced
We watch and clap
For him to do it again
He hid behind a mask
Hiding from his pain
He sold his soul for fame
He lived for us
He died for us
to keep our interests
he would never rest
he danced for us
he sang for us
But it was never enough
We wanted more
and he gave us more
he changed his face
and we adored
But his life was a bore
A lonely man he was
he was born to entertain us
I would guess that fame magnifies our problems. All of those flaws that we hate most about ourselves are printed and published for all to see. A truly gifted musician and humanitarian probably didn't see his own worth, the way the world saw it. I wish that his sadness could have been eased while he lived. He was much loved.
I was not a big Michael Jackson fan (although I did like a few of his songs), but I have to think that his life was also of his own choosing once he was an adult. A good ode to him none-the-less. I wonder if he would have been as big as he was if he had released his album Thriller in today's time. After all, when he released that (which is the album that skyrocketed him to global superstar status - he was a star before that, just not a global superstar), MTV was actually playing music videos almost around the clock and was one of the few stations of its type and at the time that pandered to teens and pop culture the way it did. If it had not been for that, I don't think he would have gotten as huge as he did. Come to think of it, I don't think Madonna would have risen to the level of fame that she is at as well. Anyway, good write no matter what.
This is so true, it seems he kept reaching his peak and needed to find something more to entertain us with and I think he reached his peak at too young an age... after his thriller album came out and the moon walk, those are things that can never be topped. Nice tribute, Reviewer
I was shocked to learn that Michael Jackson died. But I was more mad because it overpowered Farrah Fawcett's death, which was truly saddening. I thought his music was great, but I didn't like or respect him as a person. This was good though. I really liked this:
"Hiding from his pain
He sold his soul for fame"
That is so true. He was great before he made a mockery of himself and his family. His music will always be something that changed music in general for ages. Anyways, I'm rambling. Awesome poem :]
