A slap to the face

A stinging embrace

The needle sharp pain

The prickle of tears

 

Locked up in my room

The door closed behind me

The walls a poor substitute

For the fear that blinds me

 

The shouting and screaming

The tantrums and tears

All unfit for my mommy’s ears

 

A bleeding lip

Eyes blue from a bruise

She is my blanket

Worn thin from use

 

Like a shield

She tries to hide me

From the demon out there

That tries to confine me

 

But the demon out there

Goes by a name

Mommy calls him husband

My daddy

My name
