Death=Life

Death=Life

A Poem by Shading Fate
"

A pro-choice poem I wrote from the perspective of a child who was born as a result of rape. Not based on personal experience, but that of a friend's.

"
i.
I knew even before birth
that my life was but a mistake.

Your womb carried an unwanted me-
this vile product of rape.

In darkness, each tear you cried
became my first memory.

Why am I in here, existing
when choice could be setting my spirit free.

ii.
Brought into world,
I'm feeling your pain as if it's my own.

Unwelcome I am,
so this heart of mine is left scared and alone.

I'm just a reminder-
of all the things that he's done to you.

Blame me, the reason
for this hell you're being forced to go through.

iii.
Burdened by my breath,
you should have killed me, but now it's too late.

I've become the neglected,
this child you didn't plan to create.

Without your affection
because you never wanted me here,

I grew up wishing
that one day I'd finally disappear.

----- ~*~ -----

Had you made that choice,
I'd be amongst angels in heaven above,

living life after death,
in the presence of God and his holy love.
