The sixties

The sixties

A Poem by Daffy
"

Some memories of those good times, bridging the late 50's and early 60's in England.

"
The sixties, oh what lovely years, oh what lovely times, and, oh those joyous tears.

When we realised the ways, of thick silk socks and bones and stays,
That held those corsets very tight, and not an ankle ne'er in sight
Were gone! Light shone, long skirts were gone!
Short skirts and petticoats,
And legs to show. When 'Daisy doats'
Was never sung, 'cos The Rolling stones had just begun.

The sixties, oh what lovely years, my legs to show and young my years.

Those teddy boys, with crazy hair, that took us out and to their lair
With Juke box music heard afar, with 'burning bikes' and burning tar,
With all the noise and flashing lights, and all the 'oldies' cry "what sights!"
But listen Ma...and hear us shout....we're here to stay....and stays are OUT!
It's Jiving now and Rock and Roll, your time hath ended, your bell doth toll!
My stocking's fine, my skirt is short my boyfriends 'drains' are nice and taut.

The sixties, oh what lovely years, my legs to show, and young my years

The sixties was a time of change,
A time for for girls to be 'free range',
A time to help the world move on,
A time for love a time for song.
A time to live, for all to be,
In peace and share equality.

Ah, the sixties! Aren't they called the "Golden" sixties? Young people, the clothes, the music, the hobbies. Another era.
A lovely walk down memory lane.
Personally, the sixties bring to mind "the Beatles", best band ever. But the times they are a-changing.
Lovely write.
